Welcome
Sonnerupgaard Manor is a Bed and Breakfast hotel with a
homely atmosphere. We offer accommodation to the discriminating
traveller as well as we are an ideal setting for
weddings/celebrations, business conferences and seminars.
A bit of history
Sonnerupgaard is mentioned the first time in the year of
1341. The following years Sonnerupgaard was owned by a number of
different families for example the Bild family and the Trolle
family who are among some of the oldest noble families in Denmark.
In 1873 count W. Schulin took over. In 1963 Sonnerupgaard was sold
to the insurance company Alm. Brand, and the manor was rebuilt for
the use of a course centre. Since 1997 Peter Kjær Knudsen and
Birgitte Israelsen have owned Sonnerupgaard. The fields are used
for agriculture and the buildings for hotel business.
Hotel and social gatherings
Sonnerupgaard Manor hotel and course centre is situated
in the central Zealand. Sonnerupgaard is surrounded by 200 hectares
of land, 50-hectare is forest and the rest is arable land. The
peaceful surroundings invite to absorption and relaxation and
provide a special setting for courses, social gatherings and
overnight stays. Sonnerupgaard is known for its homely atmosphere
and excellent service.
Business conferences and teambuilding activities
It is the perfect venue for unconventional courses
incorporating different events. These could be outdoor activities
such as Robinson Games, runs in the forest, rappelling from our
silo or gastronomic challenges such as preparing your own dinner
with a famous cook.
The 1877-Granite Barn has recently been totally
modernized. It is very large and can easily seat 400 people. It is
one large room with the old ceiling uncovered. That makes the
atmosphere quite special and unique. There is a huge kitchen and on
top of this a new conference room called the Hayloft
overlooking the old moat. The old silo is used as staircase.
The Main Building dates from 1878 and was the residence
of a private family until 2001. The building is now part of the
hotel and a very special part because it is almost unchanged since
1878. The atmosphere is therefore private and cosy with old
furniture, an open fireplace, a door opening on to the terrace and
the park with its flowers and small lakes with lots of
ducks.
The Stable from 1876 has a foyer and 2 large rooms
perfect for meetings and conferences. Where gates used to be for
carriages there are now huge windows facing the yard.
In 1952 the Cavalier Wing was built
and that is perfect for smaller meetings. This wing has also been
used as a private residence and is very cosy with sitting room and
television room both with old furniture and of course also a room
for meeting.
